枯山水-karesansui at 龍安寺-Ryoanji

枯山水 means Japanese dry garden style.
Stones and sand are used to represent nature.
龍安寺 in Kyoto is famous for dry garden.

Stones look like mountain

layers of white sand symbolize sea and flow of water

金閣寺 - Kinkakuji is a famous temple in Kyoto.
First built in 1397 by 足利義満 - Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the Shogun
of the Muromachi Shogunate and then restored in 1955.
金 means gold in Japanese.
This temple is put sparkling gold coat.

祇園 - Gion at night

Gion is the traditional downtown area in Kyoto.
We can often see 芸妓-geiko and 舞妓-maiko in this area.
Gion is conserved as a cultural heritage.
In summer the annual Gion Festival is held
and thronged with tourists, local people.
